^aAll compounds except AMK were administered once daily for 5 days a week by oral gavage. The daily administration volume for each regimen group was calculated at 4 ml/kg of individual body weight. AMK was administered subcutaneously at 2 ml/kg of individual body weight.

^bExcept in control week 0 and control week 8, the number of guinea pigs for each treatment was 3. Two animals died because the infection was missed, so only one animal was allocated into the initial control group. One animal died during the period of treatment in the 8-week control group.
