Model depicting how SINE ncRNA-mRNA intermolecular interactions facilitate an mRNA export block. SINE loci are transcriptionally activated in response to many stresses. Antisense transcribed SINEs generate RNAs with the potential to base pair with complementary SINE sequences within mRNA. SINE ncRNA–mRNA intermolecular interactions recruit the protein p54nrb, leading to a block in mRNA export.
