Unifying mechanism for the hydrogenation of representative substrates by F420H2-dependent reductases. Reaction mechanisms are proposed for (A) menadione, (B) 3-cyanocoumarin, (C) 2-cyclohexen-1-one, and (D) malachite green. On the basis of previous studies, it is predicted that the cofactor binds in its deprotonated state (F420H-) (Mohamed et al., 2016a) and that a hydroxonium ion serves as the proton donor for the substrate (Mohamed et al., 2016b).
