Expression of genes commonly used as molecular markers of osteoblast and osteoclast cells indicate that genes functioning in osteoblast differentiation are typically not differentially expressed among species of pupfish, while a number of osteoclast expressed genes tend to be overexpressed in the scale-biter and underexpressed in the durophage.
