Because the genetic linkage map was generated by using strains AS and AJ, only 56 of the CB markers of the total 275 CB markers could be assigned (see text). Genetic distances are represented in centimorgans. The proportion of the progeny carrying the CB allele at the msp1 locus was measured by RTQ-PCR (see also Table 1 and Figs. 3 and 4). A selection valley is clearly evident on chromosome 8 with the msp1 locus at its lowest point. The AFLP markers represented here on P. c. chabaudi chromosome 8 are also represented in Table 1 and Fig. 3. These markers are indicated by an asterisk.
