Advantages and disadvantages of various water-assisted (WA) melt compounding techniques introducing aqueous dispersion of the clay (“nanoclay”), aqueous solution of the modifier, or only water into the high pressure zone of an extruder (with permission of BME-PT) [30]. The “modifier” is a cationic surfactant which can replace the initial Na+ ions in between the clay layers.
