General rules to improve the safety profile of NSAIDs in clinical practice.

Use the lowest effective dose for a shorter period of time
If prescribed as an analgesic drug, stop administration after 7 days if no benefit is reported
If prescribed as an anti-inflammatory drug, stop administration after 3 weeks if no benefit is reported
If it is possible avoid concomitant therapy with corticosteroids, anticoagulants, low-dose aspirin or antiplatelet agents
