(a) Invasion capabilities of the hfq mutant (Inline graphic) are slightly less than those of the JR32 (Inline graphic) and hfq/C (Inline graphic) strains in both A. castellanii amoebae and macrophage cell line MH-S. The invasion capability of all of the strains was less in host amoebae when they were grown at 37°C. (b) No significant differences exist between the replication ability of the JR32 (Inline graphic), hfq (Inline graphic), and hfq/C (Inline graphic) strains in amoebae infected at either 30 or 37°C. In infected macrophages, after 72 h the hfq mutant has a slight defect in comparison to wild-type replication ability.
