Two-dimensional analysis of proteins expressed in S. meliloti strains 102F34 Smr (A), R3-76 (B), and R3-74 (C) in LAS medium supplemented with 1 mM ectoine. Cells were pulse-labeled 1 h after ectoine addition. Whole-cell protein extracts were analyzed by 2DE followed by autoradiography. Arrows indicate ectoine-induced polypeptides displaying differences in their relative rate of synthesis.
