Whole-cell patch clamp recordings of spontaneous excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs and IPSCs) in cortical pyramidal neurons (frontal area, layers II-III) in male glut3+/− (HET) and male WT littermates at 12 months (a–c) are shown. At 12 months, an increase in the frequency of spontaneous glutamatergic synaptic events was observed (a), and this difference persisted in the presence of tetrodotoxin (TTX) (b), suggesting presynaptic influences.
