(a) CHCHD2 in conjunction with MICS1 stabilizes Cyt c in the respiratory chains, allowing for proper electron flow from complex III to complex IV and consequent ATP production. (b) Mutation or absence of CHCHD2 destabilizes Cyt c in the respiratory chain, which causes electron leakage and ROS generation.
