Efficiency of 18s rRNA gene blocking strategies for detection of the Anopheles eukaryotic microbiome. Anopheles and mammal 18s rRNA gene sequences were removed, and the numbers of 18s rRNA gene amplicons for the V4 (solid line) and V9 (dashed line) regions are indicated. The amplicon counts of non-Anopheles and mammal sequences indicates the efficiency of detection of eukaryotic microbiome lineages, shown as a function of blocking strategy used as well as PNA blocker concentration.
