Within this figure is a diagram showing connections between the prefrontal area of voluntary control and the premotor area containing circuits for action plans. Within the thalamus are shown the axon connections of each layer 5 pyramidal neuron to 2 thalamic neurons. Axon connections of layer 6 pyramidal neurons show a similar pattern but are omitted here for the purpose of clarity.
