Empirical results from serial dilution experiments. In each burst, the WXY genotypes were allowed to react with equimolar Z RNA for 10 min, after which time 10% of the reaction volume was transferred to a new tube with fresh buffer and RNA. The fraction of each species was tracked in parallel test tubes using specific 32P-labeled WXY species as tags and then plotted as the molar fraction of the total population.
