Phase diagrams for the chiral smectic-A* phase depend on the reduced temperature, , reduced chirality and Ginzburg parameter κ_G = λ/ξ for the molecules. The phase boundary between the TGB and chiral nematic phases occurs at the upper critical chirality, q_c2, while the onset of the HN phase occurs for lower reduced temperature and a finite, non-zero reduced chirality. This leaves room for other high-temperature bent-core smectic phases, such as B2, from which HN experimentally condenses.
