A. Patterning of posterior foregut endoderm. During endoderm patterning, which occurs around E8.5 in the mouse, WNT, Bmp, and Fgf signals promote hindgut (Cdx2) gene expression. BMP represses the foregut marker Sox2. RA activity is required for specification of the posterior region of the foregut, where one of its target genes is Hnf1β. B.
