  • Complete blood count with differential

  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate

  • Electrolytes

  • Calcium

  • Phosphate

  • Fasting glucose

  • C-reactive protein

  • Liver function: bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyl transaminase, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase

  • Total protein, albumin/globulin ratio

  • Renal function: urea, creatinine, glomerular filtration rate

  • Thyroid function: thyroid stimulating hormone, free thyroxine (free T4)

  • Anti-nuclear antibodies

  • Iron studies: serum iron and transferrin or ferritin

  • Vitamin B 12 and folate

  • Vitamin D3, 25-hydroxy cholecalciferol

  • Celiac screening: tissue transglutaminase IgA and IgG, with serum IgA

  • Urinalysis
