a

Field turkeys and chickens were vaccinated or infected with the indicated virus strains.

b

For experimental live H1N1 virus infections, poultry were inoculated i.v. with A/Duck/Alberta/35/76 (DA/76) virus.

c

For commercial vaccine inoculations, poultry were vaccinated two to three times s.c.

d

The AGP assay was performed with undiluted sera. The data represent the number of samples positive by the AGP assay/total number of samples tested.

e

Serum from immunized poultry were diluted 1:200 before addition to ELISA plates. The OD values of all preimmune serum controls ranged from 0.083 to 0.149, 0.071 to 0.086, and 0.76 to 0.094 on ELISA plates coated with the MBP-NS1 fusion protein, the NS136-48 peptide, or the NS129-41 peptide, respectively. Samples were considered positive for antibodies to the NS1 protein if they yielded an OD greater than the mean plus 4, standard deviations for the control sera.

f

ND, not done.

g

Values in parentheses indicate the number of vaccinations.
