Hemolysis assay of Cy5-BF3 (19F) after 4 h of incubation with red blood cells (RBCs). Complete RBC hemolysis is observed in deionized water (control, left, shows lack of pelleting and red colored supernatant). Hemolysis is not observed with 4, 2, or 1 µM Cy5-BF3 in isotonic phosphate-buffered saline (pH = 7.4, PBS).
