Attempts to fit continuous dark noise with the model of noise generation by Rieke and Baylor (1996). (A and B) Insets show mean SPRs of the same rod (red lines) fit by MEM (smooth black lines). Reasonable fits of the noise by Rieke and Baylor (1996) model can be obtained both in normal Ringer and forskolin solution if the fitting parameters are nonrestrained (curves 1 in main panes). If the noise-fitting parameters were kept close to the values derived from MEM, reasonable fit was not possible (lines 2). Parameters of the SPR and of “good” and “poor” fits to noise are given in Table 4.
