Scematic for the three scenarios for locations of recombination hotspots relative to QTN. In scenario 1 (a) QTN (red) were randomly distributed along the genome. Recombination hotspots were in predefined windows for the first 21 generations of selection (green) and could be shifted to adjacent regions for the future 80 generations of selection (blue). In scenarios 2 and 3 (b, c respectively), QTN were clustered into defined chromosome regions (red). In scenario 2 (b), recombination hotspots were adjacent to QTN clusters for the first 21 generations of selection (green) and could be shifted to be collocated with QTN clusters for the future 80 generations of selection (blue).
