Only red-labeled cells could be detected in transected animals indicating re-growth of supraspinal axons across the site of injury. Lack of green labeled cells indicated that the transection was complete ( A). In control animals both labels could be detected with many more red-labeled than green (arrow), or double-labeled (arrowhead) neurons visible ( B).
