Effect of ASA and fluvastatin on the S. aureus-induced reduction in platelet counts. Platelet counts after a 30-min exposure to staphylococcal strains [clinical strains (SaB), S. condimenti (Sc) or S. aureus ATCC 43866 (ATCC43866)], TRAP (as a positive control) or Tyrode’s buffer (as a negative control, NS), ASA, fluvastatin or water (as a control vehicle) [control vehicle (n = 42), TRAP (n = 40) or Staphylococcus strains (n = 10)]. The data (mean ± SEM) are expressed as the platelet count × 10⁶/ml. *p < 0.05,**p < 0.01; ****p < 0.0001 (two-way ANOVA with repeated measures and the Bonferroni post hoc test; ASA or fluvastatin vs. control vehicle).
