a

Four-week-old SPF chickens were inoculated intranasally (i.n.) with 103 EID50 of E43 virus, 103 EID50 of E93 virus in a volume of 100 μl, respectively; three chickens in each group were euthanized on 3 DPI, and virus titer was determined in samples of heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, and brain in eggs.

b

For statistical analysis, a value of 1.5 was assigned if the virus was not detected from the undiluted sample in three embryonated hen eggs. Virus titers are expressed as means standard deviation in log10EID50/0.1 ml of tissue.

c

Ducks inoculated with virus.

d

Naive contact ducks housed with those inoculated.
