Infection assays with SL1344 and its acrB mutants in INT-407 (A) and Caco2 (B) intestinal epithelial cells. Association (2 h postinfection) and invasion (4 h postinfection) of the ΔacrB and the AcrB D408A mutants into INT-407 and Caco2 cells were compared to those of the parental wild-type strain. An asterisk denotes a significant difference of P < 0.05 between two groups. Analyses were done by Student’s t test with Welch’s correction.
