Association between FFM and total, brain and body REE in 267 subjects (55.8% females, 44.2% males) at a mean age of 28.9 years (range: 18–39.4 years). Brain REE was calculated from MRI-derived masses times-specific metabolic rate (for details see Müller et al.⁶³). Body REE was then calculated as the difference between total REE (as measured by indirect calorimetry) and brain REE.
