Gait analysis. (a) Images of an M. formicaria female (left) and a male (centre, right) showing the antennal illusion behaviour where the forelegs are elevated similar to ant antennae. Ants use an alternating tripod gait, with no clear phase relationship between antennae and legs. Ant mimics walk like typical jumping spiders (highlighted in green), but when stationary its forelegs move into phase with one another, similar to ant antennae (shown in red).
