Complete absence of food allergens by an elemental diet significantly increased the esophageal mucosal impedance and TER (a, c) and decreased the esophageal transepithelial flux of fluorescein (0.3 kDa) and rhodamine molecules (40 kDa) (e, g). The esophageal mucosal impedance and the fluorescein and rhodamine flux reached values comparable to those in healthy controls (b, f, h).
