Table 1. Diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes.

Diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus
   HbA1c ≥6.5% or,
   Fasting plasma glucose ≥126 mg/dL, or
   2 hour plasma glucose ≥200 mg/dL during an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, or
   Random blood glucose ≥200 mg/dL associated with symptoms of hyperglycemia, or hyperglycemia crisis
Diagnostic criteria for pre-diabetes
   HbA1c 5.7–6.4%, or
   Fasting plasma glucose of 100–125 mg/dL, or
   2 hour plasma glucose 140–199 mg/dL during an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
