(C) Under the condition of EB overactivation, the gating function exerted by EB on LAL is potentiated. In this example, LAL is only able to trigger one action (move “forward”) at the beginning of the simulation, when the visual input is strong enough to overcome the inhibition provided by the EB. As soon as the simulated insect changes its location and the visual input is not accessible, the remaining sensory stimuli are unable to drive any premotor response, leaving the simulated insect motionless.
