Role of endothelium in cholinergic vasodilatory responses of ophthalmic artery of eNOS−/− mice. Vasodilatory responses to ACh (10−4 M) were almost abolished in vessels denuded of endothelium. Conversely, vasodilation to exogenous NO donor, SNP (10−4 M) was preserved in both endothelium-denuded and -intact vessels. Values are expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean (s.e.m) (n = 6 per group; ***P < 0.001, endothelium-denuded versus endothelium-intact).
