Study protocol. Every participant was allocated to one of four groups: 1) active transcranial pulsed current stimulation together with active transcranial direct current stimulation (AtPCS/AtDCS); 2) active tPCS and sham tDCS (AtPCS/StDCS); 3) shan tPCS and active tDCS (StPCS/AtDCS) and 4) sham tPCS and Sham tDCS (StPCS/StDCS). Before and after each stimulation session, participants underwent a quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) at rest, a Von Frey assessment and a Pain Pressure Test (PPT) before and during cold water immersion (also called conditioned pain modulation or CPM).
