Effects of PZH-GB on histopathological changes induced by CCl4 in rats. The rats were pretreated with PZH-GB (150, 300 and 600 mg/kg), silymarin (50 mg/kg) or vehicle for 7 days before administration of CCl4 (2 ml/kg body weight and 1:1 diluted in corn oil) to induce acute liver injury. Representative pictures of liver sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin (magnification, ×200) are presented. (−), no inflammation or ballooning degeneration; (+), inflammation or ballooning degeneration occupying 33% of the hepatic parenchyma; (+++), inflammation or ballooning degeneration occupying >66% of the hepatic parenchyma.
