Error bars of the medians are the bootstrapped 95% confidence intervals. (Right) The ratio of cell sizes in liquid to those in colonies. The solid line shows the ratio of the means, and the dashed line is the ratio of the medians. Error bars are propagated from the error bars of the means and the medians. Cells in old colonies are 1.6 to 3.4 times shorter than in old liquid cultures.
