Quantification of the retinal thickness proved a time- and hypoxia duration-dependent decrease. In contrast high glutamate concentration was associated with a thickening of the retina (n=4 for all retinas, except 1 mM glutamate treated n=3). Data are presented with ±s.d. and *P<0.05, **P<0.01, ***P<0.001 versus control. Additional analysis with Tukey-Kramer post hoc analysis revealed more significant differences between the groups (for ease of reading this data is not shown).
