The experimental and numerical force–displacement curves of the elytra cuticle of the dung beetle C. ochus subjected to nanoindentation. The numerical results are given for different stiffness profiles. The best predictions were obtained from the analysis of the model with a discontinuous exponential stiffness profile (DC-EXP).
