Upon reaching a threshold concentration, GBAP binds to the histidine kinase receptor FsrC, triggering the phosphorylation of FsrA, which then upregulates the expression of the fsr QS circuitry genes, including the production of more GBAP (auto-induction). Genes involved in pathogenicity are also upregulated by FsrA.
