Optical inhibitory and excitatory response – Whole Cell Current Clamp Recording. (a) Action potential of a representative SH-SY5Y cell in response to 180 pA, 300 ms electrical pulse. Subsequently, inhibition (120 mW, 532 nm green laser pulse was superimposed on 180 pA electric current pulse) and activation (2ms, 120 mW laser pulse) in response to laser stimulation were recorded. Part b and c shows the inhibition and activation recordings respectively, inset of part c shows the long time scales of the optical action potential.
