Continuous variables were analysed with one-way analysis of variance or the Kruskal-Wallis test, and categorical variables were analysed with the chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test. Results are expressed as mean ± SD for variables with a normal distribution, as median and interquartile range for variables with a skewed distribution, or as number with percentage for categorical variables. SD, standard deviation; HDL-C, high density lipoprotein cholesterol; LDL-C, low density lipoprotein cholesterol; VAI, visceral adiposity index; FRS, Framingham risk score.
