The phenethylamine pharmacophore is bolded in each of the structures. Methamphetamine has a methyl (single carbon) off the α-carbon and nitrogen (N) terminus of phenethylamine. Methcathinone has carbonyl group (=O) off the β-carbon of methamphetamine.
