The two viridis mutants and the xantha-l35 mutant are leaky and are able to synthesize a limited amount of chlorophyll, which gives them a pale green color. The xantha-l81 and xantha-l82 mutants are nonleaky and unable to make chlorophyll; therefore, they are only colored yellow from carotenoids.
