Figure A. demonstrates that three clusters of mucosal bacteria predmoninate and that on and off cancer samples appear to cluster together. In (B) the grey boxes highlight samples taken from tumour, 5 cm off tumour and 10 cm off tumour from the same individuals which cluster together. This shows that 8 out of 18 patients demonstrated significant homogeneity in mucosal bacteria on cancer and at 5 and 10 cms. This clustering effect is greater than any clustering associated with sampling location, suggesting that individual variation is a greater influence on CRC microbiome dysbiosis than colonic geographical sampling site relative to the tumour.
