Utilization of hydroxybenzoates by C. parapsilosis mutants. The wild type strain CLIB214 and the hbt mutants were grown overnight in liquid YPD medium at 28 °C, washed with water, diluted to a concentration 6 × 106 cells/ml. Serial fivefold dilutions were then spotted on the synthetic media containing either glucose or a hydroxybenzoate substrate as a sole carbon source. The plates were incubated for 4 days at 28 °C. The yeast strains were cultivated in unbuffered media (a) as well as in the media with pH adjusted to 7.5 using 100 mM Tris-HCl (b).
