Summary of our findings. (A) Claudin-1 reduction triggers epidermal barrier dysfunction, including both the paracellular barrier and the SC barrier. These dysfunctions cause abnormal differentiation and inflammation, which are also triggered and/or accelerated by environmental factors. (B) Dose-dependent claudin-1 expression influences the progression of claudin-1 mutant mouse symptoms.
