Inhibition of Smad2 and Smad3 abrogated the ginsenoside Rg1-mediated effect on CSE-induced EMT in HBE cells. HBE cells were pretreated with or without SB525334 (3 μM) for 60 min and then stimulated with 10% CSE and cultured with or without ginsenoside Rg1 (40 μM) for 48 h. Protein expressions of E-cad and α-SMA were determined by Western blot. Data were expressed as the mean ± SD; n = 6. Statistical significance was assessed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. ^∗∗P < 0.01 versus Sham group; ^##P < 0.01 versus CSE group. ^△P < 0.05 and ^△△P < 0.01 versus CSE + Rg1 + SB525334 group.
