Heatmap. Hierarchical clustering analysis using ward clustering was used to classify samples into community state types (CSTs). There was a 90% concordance in CST classification (27/30 patients) between swab and brush sampling. Three patients with a Lactobacillus-spp. dominant vaginal microbiota on swab sampling were subsequently found to have a high-diversity CST IV on cytobrush sampling.
