The information was obtained from Wikipedia, Plana, 2004 and Senut et al.11. Names in red indicate species not sampled in this study. The graphics show the number of endemics (blue bar), species shared with another area (green bar), and widespread species (i.e., occurring in more than two areas, orange bar). The coloured square with a letter indicates the phylogenetic adscription of each species (see Fig. 2). The letters in each area indicate the main biomes: D: Namib Desert, SK: Succulent Karoo, NK: Nama Karoo, F: Fynbos, G: Natal Grassslands.
