The drinking categories were defined based on grams of alcohol consumed per day (g per day): non-drinkers, g per day=0; light drinkers, 0<–≤28 g per day in men and 0<–≤14 g per day in women; at-risk drinkers, 28<–<42 g per day in men and 14<–<28 g per day in women; and heavy drinkers, g per day ≥42 in men and ≥28 in women. The Monocyte samples included mixed samples of European (47%), African (21%) and Hispanic (32%) ancestries.
