Time course of nickel-dependent activation of urease in vivo. Arabidopsis wild type plants were hydroponically grown without nickel for 5½ weeks. After supplementation of NiCl2 (final concentration: 10 μm), the urease activity and the Ni2+ concentration in the plants were repeatedly monitored. Both are shown relative to the final values reached after 8 days, which were set to 100%. Three biological replicates (three plants per replicate) were analyzed (individual data points shown as open circles; error bars = S.D.). The absolute data is shown in supplemental Fig. S6A.
