Aspiration and irrigation of the corpora should be performed through a butterfly needle of no smaller than 21 gauge. The needle should be inserted through the tunica albuginea into the corpus cavernosum. The cavernosa are connected in the midline by the incomplete midline septum so irrigation of one side should be adequate.
